World of Warcraft & Burning Crusade Now Combined

Big news out of the World of WarCraft camp the last few days.

Two big updates in the world of World of WarCraft come with the 4.2 content patch. As of June 28, Blizzard is offering World of WarCraft: Burning Crusade as part of the base World of WarCraft experience. If you own a copy of WoW and have not upgraded to the Burning Crusade expansion, your account has been upgraded to have complete access to all BC content. This is a very interesting move from Blizzard since people would still buy both the original game and the expansion, so this seems on first impression to be a poor financial move. However, Blizzard is trying to get more new players into the game so removing Burning Crusade from the purchasing equation they make the game more appealing to buy.

Another change designed to draw in more new blood is the World of WarCraft FREE Starter Edition. You can now apply for an account and play up to level 20 for free, for as long as you want. Any and all restrictions from the trial accounts like lack of auction house access, a 10 gold money cap and limited communication still apply, but if you’re only playing to level 20 it shouldn’t hinder you to much.

If you’ve wanted to give the game a shot this seems like a very, very good time. Now, if only I can convince my anti-WoW compatriot Beta to take a stab at it.

Alphasim out.
