As the last game of 2011 I really want to get in the books pre-2011 Game of the Year awards (Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic won’t make it on time) I’m burning through Batman: Arkham City on PC. I neglected to get Arkham Asylum reviewed and I don’t want to miss this one. Here’s my first take on the game.

Batman: Arkham City

The action is excellent, and the characters are great. I get a similar kick out of whipping through small throngs of foes as I do quietly dispatching my enemies one by one. The controls, mouse and keyboard style, seem flawless to me. I also like that if I’m falling to my doom (like I did early on after missing a jump over a molten pit) I was able to save myself at the last second, Batman-style with my grappling hook.

The vocals are great, and Batman and Joker are classic to anyone who grew up watching the cartoon show in the early 1990s. I’ll be putting more time in, pre-review, but Arkham City may be fighting for a mention at GOTY.
