I, apparently, am an idiot. That’s the impression I get from this First Opinion on The Cave, Ron Gilbert and Double Fine’s new platformer/adventure game.
Playing with three separate avatars at once (a la The Lost Vikings) you solve adventure game-style puzzles while the cave itself chides you. Seriously, the thing talks and everything.
Personally, the last adventure game I played was Laura Bow: The Dagger of Amon Ra in the early ‘90s (which I really want to go back and replay for an article here someday) so I’m not great at this kind of game. In fact, it took me an hour to get through the first major puzzle set piece I crossed, the Carnival. Yup there’s a carnival in the cave. This is the weirdest cave ever.
I’ll try and get a review done but at my current rate of progress you can probably expect it around Valentines Day…. in 2014.
