I’ve been neglected to review Reus for a while now. It’s not that I don’t like the game, because I do. It’s just an easy title to forget about. It’s great for quick bursts of fun but it doesn’t stick with you very long. I’ve heard of gaming experiences being compared to ‘fast food’ before for their quick but ultimately unfulfilling experiences. Reus absolutely fits into that mold.

Sometimes games are easy to review, sometimes they’re hard. For me, harder games to review are those that require coordinated multiplayer – scheduling with friends who also own the game in question can be a trick. Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine is one such game that I knew was going to be a bit of a pain. Fortunately, its arrival on Xbox Live Arcade came at just the right time: Not only was I able to rope Will from Chaos is Gaming in, our associate “Jverde” was in town for a few weeks and willing to help us pull off our top-down 2D heists. The results were convincing of one thing: we have no business starting a life of crime.

Age of Empires II HD should hit a nostalgic note for PC gamers of the early 2000s. The original Age of Empires II was a classic and, for me, a gateway to RTS titles in general. StarCraft and WarCraft were too fanciful for me, and Command and Conquer was too bland. In AOE2 I found a game world familiar enough to be understandable but still varied and creative. With that in mind, it’s sad that I’m not more pleased with Age of Empires II HD. For what it’s worth, allot of my gripes aren’t against the game itself, but rather how time has treated it.

SimCity has always had a spot in the hearts of PC gamers. Many people got their first experience with the series in SimCity 2000, but I kind of backed into the series by way of the Super Nintendo version. From there I’ve tried all of the PC releases, from the original through SimCity Societies. My favorite was long the iconic SC2000 but that may be changing. That is, if EA can get this game in reliable, working order.

Ace of Spades seems like it would be promising. It looks like Team Fortress 2 meets Minecraft, and indeed, it bills itself as such. Unlike those two runaway hits, should you be the one doing the running away? Let’s lay our cards on the table and find out.
