NBA 2K12 has been on my radar for some time. With expanded My Player mode, My Legend (essentially My Player with any NBA player), and the new Legends mode with a slew of classic teams this sounds even better then last years game, which I loved. The demo arrived today on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so I was able to give the new, improved controls a shot. Do they make the game better or worse?
After playing the demo for a while, SkyDrift most reminds me of the old Burnout and Flatout racing series. The power ups are fun, but the act of getting boost by doing daring maneuvers like hugging the ground, doing stunts or wrecking other planes was the biggest high for me. Could I fly along the ground long enough to catch up to the plane in front of me to hit them with my double-strength burst power up? Only way to find out is to try – and the penalty for failure is minimal. Crashing is no big deal, since you respawn in next to no time. This encourages experimenting and that’s when the game is at it’s best.
The 1.8 Adventure Patch for Minecraft was leaked yesterday and has since been given Notch’s stamp of approval. It’s not a polished, finished version so I recommend keeping a back up of your 1.7 minecraft.jar if you’re going to try it out. I gave it a spin and here’s what I’ve found.
Some eight years after it originally launched, I dove in to Planetside. I’m looking forward to Planetside 2 and have always heard good things about the game, so I picked up Planetside: Aftershock cheap and opted to give it shot. I can see the pieces of a good game, but eight years is way to late in the game to join the fight.
Today’s goal is to polish up my home defense and make a strong drive for the diamond I need for my pickaxe. Things don’t go quite as planned, but that’s normal for me anyways. Continue reading
Check out this new trailer on Minecraft’s 1.8 Adventure Patch. You’ll see ravines, new combat, rivers, and NPC (ghost) villages. The patch is supposed to go live this Thursday (the 8th) and we’ll have coverage once it does.
If you’re like myself and looking forward to EA/BioWare’s new Star Wars MMO and anxiously awaiting it’s release, you should pray for a successful beta test these next two months. The release date will be determined to some degree by the results of the testing, which is – in my mind – a very sound decision.
One of the things they are working on is optimizing their servers and although past experience has shown that no amount of testing can truly prepare a developer (especially a novice MMO developer) for the stress of a popular launch, the fact that this is one of their points of emphasis is a good sign.
Here’s the latest from my Minecraft mania. Another long night spent mining ended with me surfacing to snow. I guess if I want to see snow, I’ve got to forsake sleep. Good going Notch; make a game that promotes insomnia.
