NBA 2K14 was a solid, if not spectacular basketball when we reviewed It on PC. It was identical in many ways to its predecessors and had some nagging flaws that drug our opinion of it down some. Now we review NBA 2K14 for next-gen on the Xbox One. Is it the definitive NBA 2K14 experience, did 2K Sports cut too much to get it to market on time?
I’ve been a follower of the NBA 2K series since the original on the Sega Dreamcast, and my favorite NBA sim ever was NBA 2K13. Naturally I was very excited for NBA 2K14 but that can be hazardous, producing unsafe expectations. Does NBA 2K14 succeed as a follow up to 2K13 or is it a mere hold-me-over until the next-gen versions launch in November?
With EA Sports planning to bring back NBA Live this year (unless they don’t) to go head-to-head with NBA 2K14, we’re going to take a look at some personal favorite NBA games throughout the years. The only stipulation: the games have to be (more or less) sims, so no NBA Jam or Arch Rivals. Let’s run down our Top 5. Remember, these aren’t the necessarily best ever or most popular ever, just our opinion.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are my hometown NBA team, and they need help. They have a pretty damn good point guard in Kyrie Irving it’s the trade deadline and they need some more talent, namely at small forward and center. Enter Will and I, heroes of the hardwoo… you know, I can’t even say that with a straight face. Anyway, Will and I pitch in to try and save the Cavs season. Even with some performance-enhancing stat boosts during character creation, this could turn real ugly, real fast.
NBA 2K13 is being heralded across ‘net as the best basketball game ever, and it may well be so – on the consoles. On the PC, however, 2K Sports hasn’t given their usual 110%.
NBA 2K11 was my favorite basketball game in years, probably since NBA Live 2000. The Jordan Challenge mode was fun, the My Player mode was expanded and the on-court action was great. Does 2K12 improve on it’s championship? Let’s find out.
NBA 2K12 has been on my radar for some time. With expanded My Player mode, My Legend (essentially My Player with any NBA player), and the new Legends mode with a slew of classic teams this sounds even better then last years game, which I loved. The demo arrived today on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so I was able to give the new, improved controls a shot. Do they make the game better or worse?
