SimCity has always had a spot in the hearts of PC gamers. Many people got their first experience with the series in SimCity 2000, but I kind of backed into the series by way of the Super Nintendo version. From there I’ve tried all of the PC releases, from the original through SimCity Societies. My favorite was long the iconic SC2000 but that may be changing. That is, if EA can get this game in reliable, working order.
This is our latest Review in Progress, or RIP, this one covering SimCity. Come back all week as we prepare our review.
I’ve been interested in FTL: Faster Than Light, a space-based rogue-like indie title that focuses on managing your space folk as you explore the galaxy, for some time now. Thanks to OnLive, I finally got a chance to play it. Here’s what I found.
It’s been a slow month, so here’s a review for a game I missed last year: Sims 3: Pets. I was really disappointed in The Sims: Unleashed and pleasantly surprised with Sims 2: Pets. How does their Sims 3 counterpart stack up?
I’ve been reviewing Out of the Park Baseball games for four years now, only missing last season’s OOTP 10. I’m a huge fan of the series and can’t wait each year to see what they’ve done to improve one of my favorite games. From the addition of the Face-Gen tech in OOTP 2007 through the written scouting reports in OOTP 9, I have always enjoyed these games. Is the latest the greatest, or has the series finally stalled?
Spore was a game that divided fans. You either thought it was a great success and loved it, or you felt it was a failure and no fun at all. It seems that to many people, you have to fall into one of those camps. Myself, I enjoyed Spore allot, but it wasn’t without it’s flaws. One of the biggest was the boredom of the space phase. Now along comes the first true expansion, Galactic Adventures, hoping to remedy that. Does it fix space’s infinite boredom, or is it instead more tedious then before?
I’m a big fan of the Sims series; I bought the original on it’s release day years ago, so I’m not some band-wagon rider. Hell, I could drive the bandwagon. In any case, I’ve been looking forward to playing this game since it’s preview in the last ever issue of Games for Windows (formerly Computer Gaming World). The possibilities of an open world and a new Traits system for defining a sim’s personality sounded exciting. Little did I know, that was only the beginning.
I’d like to start this review with a disclaimer: I’m not here to review the DRM and the debacle it’s fueling online. That’s for some one else to deal with. This is a gaming site, period. With that out of the way, let’s get to our Game du Jour, Spore.
