My first MMORPG experience came with World of Warcraft in 2007 (I played The Sims Online and Second Life, but they don’t count since they weren’t RPGs). Since then I’ve spent chunks of time in almost two dozen different online worlds, none of which have grasped me like Blizzard’s behemoth. Does Sony Online have the answer in DC Universe Online, or is this just another pretender?

I’ve just gotten going in DC Universe Online, but here’s an early play preview. Creating a character seems a little complicated and way under-explained. All of the back and forth between menus makes creating a new character a real chore. The action is great, the combat is fun and the powers have some ‘oomph’ to them. However, there are issues, some of them major.

Champions Online is the first on-release review of an MMO I’ve ever done, so this has been a new experience. The game has some major flaws, but it is a new release, and MMOs are traditionally buggy on release. However, it’s youth can’t account for all of it’s problems, and that’s the game’s biggest hurdle.
