The guys took a stab at a new game the other day, EVE Online. They picked up trial accounts and set off to explore space. To the stars!
Here you can Bud and Will’s avatars (in the order). Their goal is to start a corporation based around mining and trading. First though, they need capital.
They set off to the stars near the Gallente starting zone together with Bud as the guide. He has a little more experience, having played before a few years ago so he tried to be their Yoda, but that didn’t go quite as planned. At one point in their early going Bud flew three star jumps away to trade holodecks but forgetting them back at the first station. His biggest error was buying Will a starter ship, a mining laser, a gun and some ammo to start, only to find that the game started Will with almost the exact same gear – for free. Waste. Of. Money.
While Bud was on a short trade run he helped Will find the model ship he was flying (Navitas) on the market so Will could mine better. The closest one available was a jump or so away so this was Will’s first trip out of the starter zone. He made it to the system but unfortunately the ship wasn’t available on the station he docked at. Some grumbling occurred before they realized there were two stations in that sector, and the ship was (obviously) at the other one. Figures.
Once he bought it and Bud came back, they double teamed an asteroid. Not bad, huh? They’re like the top dogs in the system! No one can challenge their…
… whoa! Three mining probes?
Wha… ? What’s that Apocalypse battleship doing here? How are the guys supposed to be top dogs when ships like this are around? Man, some people have no respect.
Yeah there’s no matching that right now. The asteroid it was mining was completely depleted in no time. With some now-healthy respect for more established players, the guys put their efforts into founding their corporation as soon as possible.
It finally happened at the end of a four hour play session for Bud. He founded Chaos is Gaming Space Industries, dedicated to money through manual labor.
He hooked back up with Will later that day at which point their joined forces. They took on a few courier missions and did some mining to get their capital back and put some easy money in their corporation wallet. In the above picture the two of them are hunting pirates in Clellinon to get Will some early combat experience. They blew up a few small pirate scouts before heading back to the station.
Bud admired his Navitas and let out a sigh.
He had been given an Iteron, a Gallente industrial ship after completing a mission but couldn’t fly it on his trial account. Will he bite the bullet and subscribe? Will he get Will to come along? We’ll see!
