It is now official; after wondering for a while, 2K Sports has announced that NBA 2K15 on the PC will be a port of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 rather than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 port from years past. For fans of basketball on PC this is good news, but it comes with some pitfalls.

NBA 2K15 PC

The first hurdle for folks wanting to play NBA 2K15 on PC will be reaching the new system requirements. While not announced yet, considering that 2K Sports is promising ‘greater graphical fidelity’ on PC than on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 you can be certain that the needed poly-pumping power will be significantly higher than the specs required for NBA 2K14. If you’re keeping your PC relatively current you should probably be prepared, but not everyone does.

Another, less critical but still popular concern is modding. I go to NBA Live Series Center regularly to find graphical and roster mods, but with the change from last-gen to next/current-gen, it is expected that file formats will change, breaking most current modding tools. The modding community is pretty intrepid so they’ll adapt but it will take a while.

All in all, this is a great thing for PC basketball fans, and I look forward to reviewing NBA 2K15 when it comes out in early October.
