Grand Theft Auto 5 was a crown jewel of the last generation of consoles. Released late in their life cycle, it brought an unpatrolled sense of place and purpose thought its beautifully realized game world. Now, with it returning later this month on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (and in January on PC), you will get to experience it from a whole new perspective: the first person perspective.
As someone who loves the Elder Scrolls series’ adherence to the first person point of view for immersing me in their worlds, I am excited to try this. Rockstar has stated that they have had to introduce thousands of new animations to the game to accommodate this new perspective, a sign a dedication to their craft. Rather than simply move the camera down to head-level, they are retooling the game to be completely playable from this angle, including the addition of fully modeled, hi-res vehicle interiors and first-person smartphones. However, if this all sounds too much like they are butchering your beloved GTA5, fear not – the first person view will be entirely optional.
Other additions to this release will include more wildlife, denser street traffic, improved graphics, many new missions, increased player counts in Grand Theft Auto Online, and much more. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are due out November 18th, and the PC version will release January 27th.
